First Look: 2025 KTM 890 Adventure R
New Connectivity Unit as standard and a fresh look for the 2025 KTM 890 Adventure R.
It feels like only yesterday we were writing about the KTM 790 Adventure and how it fits into the Austrian manufacturer’s “travel” motorcycle bracket. It was only 24 hours earlier when we asked: why would you buy the 890 R model when, for a couple of grand less, you can have the 790?
More off-road focus
The answer is in the ergonomics, bodywork and attitude of the bike underneath the rider and suspension – as much as the new dashboard connectivity unit and the external looks of the 890 R model.
The fact the 890 R has Xplor, not Apex WP suspension and 48mm forks while the 790 has 43mm set, particularly affects handling off-road. 240mm versus 200mm of suspension travel, anotehr 30mm of ground clearance all points to better off-road performance too.
Taking cues from the Dakar-winning KTM 450 Rally, KTM say the 2025 890 Adventure R has “subtle and technological differences”, they say, which makes all the difference.
Wearing a low-level windscreen, high front fender, rally-style bodywork, the off-road-focused single seat and a fresh graphic set helps the 890 R stand apart. That said, the 790 Adventure R model which is only available in Argentina and Brazil makes things really confusing...
Whichever price point or style of ADV bike (more street or off-road focused) attracts you most, our experience riding the Adventure and R models has proved the difference is clearer when you stand or sit on the bikes. The R models are more capable in the dirt, thanks in part to the suspension differences listed above but also having more room under/between your legs and they really can hack it.
TFT display upgrade
The other big news about the 890 Adventure R is the Connectivity Unit included as standard fitment on the MY25 model. The 5” TFT screen lets you connect to the KTMConnect app using Bluetooth for things like navigation, music and calls.
