Putting Fox Racing’s enduro specific Legion racewear pant and jersey to the test…

Bucking the trend from recent history, Fox Racing came out big time in 2016 with an enduro-specific set of riding kit, rather than the motocross hand-me-downs we often see. Competing with enduro specialist clothing manufacturers is a tough call but Fox has worked hard to hit the ground running with the Legion Offroad range.

They say:

Specifically designed for off-road and enduro riders, the Legion Offroad range uses a partnership with Cordura to meet the demands of off road.

The new Legion pants are derived from the 360 pant chassis and use Trumotion 4-way stretch and durable Cordura fabrics to provide an exceptional balance of function, durability and versatility. Long vent zips plus a pocket in the thigh add functionality across riding conditions while triple needle stitching in critical areas provides durability.

The legion jersey strikes the perfect balance of lightweight stretch and trail-ready functionality. The underarm panels are seamless so movement feels natural and friction-free. And perforated vents throughout increase breathability while slim arm cuffs maintain comfort.

The Fox Legion range has proved itself well in over eight months of testing from cold, wet and muddy forests to baking hot dusty tracks. It is great to see Fox stepping up to the plate with dedicated kit for enduro and it’s clear they put R&D into these pants and jersey products.

Durability of the ‘high tenacity Cordura’ has proved itself time again when it comes to brushing trees and gorse and low-side crashes. The sleeves and side of the pants have had enough abuse to prove the stronger material — compared to thinner, more aerated, kit — can take the knocks and come back for more.

Across a range of weather conditions it has tested well, proving versatile with the jacket combinations also available.

If you’re riding in only hot and dry weather most of the time, you may find it too warm, like we did. But we see this as the pay-off for durability and versatility across different riding conditions. We prefer it tough and broadly useful in different weather than having to use different types of kit.

Fabric under the arms and across the back allow the air and heat to escape from the jersey and additional, long zip venting on the thighs is a welcome addition and works well in hotter conditions in the pants. The drilled holes for venting provide a particular icy blast on a cold morning, especially the ones around the zipper fly!

Our tester is slim fella and although he loves the fit, we can’t offer a comprehensive opinion on fitment for our more stockier built readers. Stretch fabric down the inside of the leg and around the knees on the pants and under arms and around the back on the jersey should mean it is accommodating for different sizes.

Triple stitching in key areas of the pants has stood the test of time without signs of wear and the colour has held well over many washes. Comfort is good across the collar and cuffs while the lower leg of the pants fit well inside a boot even with large knee protection. Fox also do an ‘over boots’ pant — the Legion Ex Pant — constructed the same base product and material.

Overall Fox have provided the right amount toughness and practicality combined with strong design and comfort. A little too warm at times, maybe, but across northern hemisphere riding conditions the Legion racewear has proved it is clearly designed to function as well as look good.
