TM Racing’s Andrea Verona has stolen the day one win at the Aveyronnaisse French Classic Enduro – video highlights and results from the opening day of France’s biggest race of 2020.

The French Classic Enduro season is a short one in 2020 – Coronavirus put paid to the usual calendar of epic races through the natural enduro terrain which traditionally attract upwards of 500 riders to each event. The Aveyronnaisse Classic stands alone this season as the one and only major event and saw nearly 600 riders take the start from 7:30am in Entraygues-sur-Truyere.

Topping the results sheets on the first of three long days racing was Enduro Junior World Champion Andrea Verona who put one over the local French army of riders with three scratch fastest times and two second fastest results to take just under a five second lead ahead of Jeremy Miroir.

“I enjoyed the tests today and I am happy with winning three tests and taking the win scratch and in the Elite class.” Says the Italian. “There are two more days and the tests will change and many things can happen but we keep pushing and try to get the win tomorrow.”

The first of five tests on day one saw Christophe Nambotin top the time sheets on his return to major race action aboard a KTM for the first time in 2020. The former multi-time Enduro World Champion blotted his copybook though in tests three and four with P7 results but finished the day third overall.

Julien Gauthier and Jeremy Tarroux placed fourth and fifth ahead of 2019 winner and number one plate holder, Jamie McCanney. Taking his time to re-acquaint himself with enduro after his Dakar debut this year, the Outsiders Yamaha rider is 23 seconds down on the lead.
