2024 EnduroGP World Championship Super Test results from Wales where KTM USA rider Angus Riordan makes a maiden appearance and takes the win as world championship regulars fail to better the Aussie’s time.
EnduroGP Rnd 6, Wales Super Test in a nutshell:
- David Knight had the honour of officially opening the show at the EnduroGP of Wales. The Friday Super Test already bringing out a sizeable crowd to watch the head-to-head races which count as the first times test of the weekend.
- Knighter was the first rider to take the hot seat as holder of the fastest time as Open World Cup riders ticked off their runs ahead of the GP classes – take note of his 2:04.83 time and keep it in mind...
- The Enduro Women class hit the track next just as the first dose of rain started to fall, making the logs and tyres slicker for some riders.
- Team KBS Sherco duo were undaunted and landed the fastest times with Rachel Gutish taking the win ahead of Nieve Holmes.
- The wind quickly dried the wet tyres and let the Youth class get on with their usual mix of fizzing 125 noise and wild enthusiasm with RFME rider Alex Puey going fastest with a 2:10.73.
- Hot out the blocks as the Juniors hit the track due to his early start number, Angus Riordan treated the crowd to a ripping display to put down a time of 2:01.4 on the clock.
- By the middle of the Juniors rain started to intermittantly arrive for the remainder of the night and when it did, those logs and tyres began catching more people out.
- When the senior EGP classes hit the track 30 minutes later it had gotten rougher too with the loose shale dirt pushing up under braking but making logs tougher than they had been earlier. The light was fading and that rain kept on blowing through making it harder, despite the rider level ramping up visibly.
- Mistakes looked easy all night and we saw some easy time lost as wheels skipped sideways on the loose shale dirt and the obstacles – notably Brad Freeman had good one and Andrea Verona also slipped off.
- It was a long time coming before anyone even looked like snatching a quicker time than Riordan. Zach Pichon came first, Josep Garcia inevitably went quick too plus British home riders Dan Mundell and Steve Holcombe kept the crowd happy.
- But at best, those guys were still only good enough for a 2:04 (Garcia and Pichon plus that old guy we mentioned earlier fourth overall...) and, with the EGP elite unable to conquer the gloom and beaten track any faster, the rookie Riordan took the Akrapovic award.
-
“First ever EnduroGP and I think because I was quite early the track was nice and I had that advantage on my side but, yeah, I’m pretty stoked with that!” Said Riordan after getting his award.
