2021 Africa Eco Race: Dakar to Dakar route
After racing a route through Morocco became impossible, organisers of the Africa Eco Race have declared the 2021 event will start and finish in the historic heart of rally racing, Dakar in Senegal.
Due to the Coronavirus crisis and travel restrictions within Morocco, the Africa Eco Race will now run a redesigned route for the 2021 edition. Opting for a Senegal-Mauritania-Senegal route, the race will now start and finish in the historic heart of rally, the city of Dakar.
Giving continuity to Thierry Sabine’s original Dakar Rally legacy, the 2021 event will run from January 5-17 and head deep into the Sahara desert before arriving at the famous Lac Rose 12 days later. The new route will go further into Senegal giving the riders the chance to race on the unique laterite tracks which are lined in places with Baobab trees.
“We've always been looking to move forward, keeping the race alive, both on the sporting and economic side,” admitted Jean Louis Schlesser, Africa Eco Race organizer and two time Dakar Champion (1999, 2000).
