Yamaha announces 2025 off-road model range with big changes to the WR250F Enduro and YZ250FX Cross-Country models, plus refinements to the YZ and YZ-F motocross range which still includes something for everyone right down to the legendary PW50.

Depending on where you are in the world (North America versus Europe chiefly), the story from Yamaha about their 2025 off-road model range differs massively. Yamaha Europe shout loudest about tweaks to the YZ motocross range, keeping quiet (for now?) about the enduro and off-road range it seems.

Switch Stateside to Yamaha Motor Corporation USA and they are happily telling all about the new YZ250FX and WR250F machines – we’ll go with that then!

The YZ250FX, designed for cross-country racing, and the enduro model WR250F get all the attention here with updates based on those we saw on the YZ250F last model year: significant chassis, engine and suspension updates, plus an H4 headlight, LED taillight on the WR.

New muffler designs feature across YZ, WR and YZ-X to comply with noise regulations plus the YZ motocross machines also get suspension updates.

2025 WR250F updates

Starting with enduro, the new 2025 WR250F which Yamaha say is lighter and slimmer with a lower centre of gravity, quicker handling through tight turns, and more confidence-inspiring. If it is anything like the WR450F, these changes will feel significant.

Updates for 2025 are also based on the YZ250F motocrosser, starting with a new bilateral beam frame with precisely tuned flex characteristics and unique engine mounts to ensure excellent stability, turning and bump absorption.

The WR250F’s suspension is also revised and lowered by 10mm, contributing to the lower centre of gravity for a planted feel and increased ability in tight turns. Fully adjustable KYB forks now have a hand adjuster for quick compression changes.

Other updates include a new shape seat, radiator shrouds are two inches narrower, and the slimmer fuel tank. That contributes to a new rider position with more leg room and ability t move around the bike and the bars are moved forward.

A new intake design draws air from under the side covers and seat allowing for a more efficient path which boosts mid- to high-rpm performance. There is also new four-level Traction Control tuning, lap timer and helpful tuning guides enabled through Yamaha’s groundbreaking next-generation Power Tuner App.

2025 YZ250FX updates

With an equally meaningful list of changes to the chassis, suspension, and ergonomics, the 2025 YZ250FX arrives promising to be lighter, sharper and more agile and handle better.

Updates to the 2025 model begin with a completely redesigned aluminium bilateral beam frame. Based on the YZ250F, the new frame includes model-specific engine mounts and lightweight subframe but centres on a lightweight feel and increased front wheel traction, “allowing the rider to enter corners with greater confidence and more line choices”.

The YZ250FX’s fully adjustable KYB suspension is 10mm shorter and includes updated settings to improve balance with the new frame and dish out less pitch on corner entry/exit.

The revised frame and suspension settings also claim a lower centre of gravity to improve manoeuvrability in tight, technical terrain and make it easier reach to the ground with a new seat design – although they don’t note any reduction to the seat height. Like the other models, the front fork now includes a new hand-clicker for easy, toolless compression adjustments.

Ergonomics are also improved with a more generous rider triangle and with more space between the seat and foot pegs. Like the new WR, the FX has a slimmer, flatter, more compact shape to improve feel and body movement.

A redesigned intake system and new ECU settings claim better control in low-end and more mid- to high-end power. The new FX also updates to the next generation Power Tuner App, now even simpler to use with a quick-adjust slide bar for easy engine tuning, and more functionality including new four-level Traction Control.

2025 YZ450F updates

The 2025 motocross range has some updates also including to Yamaha’s flagship headline act, the YZ450F.

A new rear suspension linkage aims to improve stability and with revised suspension setting, both contributing to “an improved feeling in traction on corner exit, and lends to a more planted feeling when taking on jumps.”

Front suspension settings have also been updated to create a “calmer front end”. That includes extending the length of the spring to increase internal preload pressure, changing the valving from the current circular shape to a more triangular shape and increasing the size of the inflow oil holes to adjust oil flow.

• The front suspension changes provide the rider with a more consistent damping feeling across mixed terrains and riding situations, especially under braking and cornering.
• New front engine mounts improve the overall chassis balance, matching the changes made to the suspension, altering the chassis rigidity to improve stability too.
• A new clutch design improves cooling efficiency with the number of holes feeding oil to the clutch plates increasing three-fold from six to 18.
• There’s also a new seamless design seat, removing joins and welds, new aluminium footpeg brackets, new handlebar switch shape to help avoid riders pressing the wrong button and a new throttle grip tube.
• Significant also is the update to the rear mufflers on all models to keep the bikes inline with the FIM’s new noise regulations for 2025.
• New graphics complete the 2025 look and the YZ450F is available from July onwards.

2025 YZ250F

The YZ250F gets revised suspension also including an updated rear linkage, new settings front and rear, along with a lighter spring rate on rear shock and new delta-shaped piston shims in the fork for enhanced stability, traction and a more planted front-end feel.

A new handlebar switchbox incorporates an updated ribbed design for more feel while riding plus a new throttle tube increases the spacing between the throttle grip and throttle housing assembly they say.

There’s also a new foot peg bracket design is lighter with a revised shape to enhance rider ergonomics.

YZ two-stokes

Yamaha has been building two-stroke motocross bikes for over 50 years and for 2025, the legendary YZ250 and YZ125 get a few updates including a modified radiator and the introduction of tool-less fork compression clickers.

Updated graphics and handlebar pad complete the new look in the new Icon Blue colours which spreads down to the YZ65 and YZ85.

And then there’s the icon: the PW50. Perhaps one of the most famous motorcycles in the world, the ‘PeeWee’ has been the number one choice for a child’s first two-wheel experience for over 40 years. Featuring a fully automatic transmission and handlebar mounted brakes, the lightweight two-stroke is the ultimate beginner’s bike and has sold over 400,000 units to date. The PW50 sees new racing-inspired Icon Blue graphics for 2025.
