Results from the final day’s racing in the 2021 FIM Enduro World Championship in Langeac, France where Brad Freeman wins the 2021 EnduroGP world crown in style with victory on the day – Laia Sanz claims her sixth Women’s world title.
2021 EnduroGP of France day 2 in a nutshell:
- True to his word, Brad Freeman went out on the final day’s racing in the 2021 EnduroGP World Championship with no intention of taking it easy and nursing a 10-point lead comfortable cushion.
- Three test wins in the morning set up a lead and Brad showed no mercy in sealing the overall EnduroGP scratch title, his second, fittingly with a win on the final day. “I was angry after throwing it away in the last test yesterday,” says Brad. “I thought about what to do today? Finish ninth or what? But I thought fuck it, I’m going for the win and finish in style. I think we were all feeling it a bit and having a few crashes today. When I got to the last test I thought I can finally relax but it was the worst thing I could have done, I almost fell straight away and had to have a word with myself. I’m stoked, really, after what happened last year I felt like I had a weight on my shoulders for a year. Now I feel like it has just gone, I’m so, so happy.”
- With the shackles off after taking the E1 title yesterday, Andrea Verona made a stake for his first overall win of the season but had to concede second overall at the final timing beam. First in E1 and 10 seconds back from the win means the GASGAS rider signs off third overall scratch for the season.
- Day one winner and new E2 world champ Josep Garcia scuppered any chances of a double day win with a crash in the first Enduro test. It lost him over 20 seconds and he spent the day clawing back towards a podium place which he stole on the last lap and takes second scratch for 2021.
- Shout out to Jaume Betriu on the big 500 KTM who’s looked good all weekend and, after finishing fourth scratch yesterday, challenged for the podium today only to have fellow Spaniard Garcia steal it in the last test.
- The Junior title was the last to be decided here today and despite storming to a half minute win on the day, Lorenzo Macoritto had to settle for second scratch – the Junior 1 world crown is some consolation though!
- Matteo Pavoni finished the year with P2 to take the Junior title outright and the Junior 2 crown for the TM Racing team who will keep hold of Matteo as he moves up to the senior classes in 2022. Leo Le Quere takes P3 for the season scratch.
- Albin Norrbin signed off a superb season with yet another win in the Youth class, half a minute clear today. Second place sealed P2 overall for Harry Edmondson for 2021 ahead of yet Fantic teammate, Kevin Cristino in third.
- Laia Sanz has added to her already considerable trophy cabinet with what turned out to be a comfortable victory on day two. Taking a collected approach on both days, she still won by an easy 45 second margin today and capped off her comeback year in dominant style.
- The fight for second in the Women's class raged all year and went right to the wire today with Mireia Badia just beating Jane Daniels by one point in the final classification for second and third respectively.
- Zdenek Pitel and Harry Houghton scrapped it out for Open 2T honours and the overall, the pair finished just 0:09 apart with the Czech rider just taking it.
- Enzo Marchal smashed the national class ahead of a healthy 70 riders, a clear 2:14 the better of William Criq and in a time which would have won him the open class.
