The last race of the 2021 Kenda AMA Extreme Off-Road series (overall and the East series), the Battle of the Goats, saw FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Trystan Hart clinching the win to secure the overall title, as well as the East series championship.

The 2021 AMA Extreme Off-Road Series and the AMA East Extreme made their last stop this weekend at the Battle of the Goats in Taylorsville, North Carolina, where the final showdown of the season between Trystan Hart and Cody Webb for overall honours took place.

Hart arrived with a slight advantage in the points after two wins on the bounce and from early on he showed that he was aiming for a third. The FMF KTM Factory Racing rider topped the 4.5-mile two-lap qualifying race to earn pole position for Sunday’s main event.

Ryder Leblond, Webb, Jordan Ashburn, and Will Riordan completed the first line of five riders for the start of the 08:00am Sunday race that was made even tougher by the overnight rainfall.

For the main race the riders took on a challenging 18-mile looping course that combined an EnduroCross style start with multiple hard sections thrown in for good measure. Hart, Leblond, and Webb made a great start to the race and found themselves at home over the man-made obstacles to pull clear from the field.

In the first extreme climb, Chicken Fight Hole, Trystan managed to extend his gap when Leblond stalled his bike near the top and Webb crashed into his rear wheel, making the Sherco rider fall down to fifth.

From there onwards it was a cat and mouse game between Hart and Cody with the American trying to make up for lost time. Webb was able to close the gap but by the end of the first lap he was almost four minutes behind Trystan.

Despite the comfortable margin, the KTM rider continued pushing through the last lap and managed to end the three-hour race in first place with an 18-minute advantage over Cody to take the AMA Extreme Overall Championship, as well as the East Extreme Championship, home with him.

“I had a great weekend at Battle of the Goats”. Said Hart after the race. “Rain made the track a bit slippery on Sunday but after I got the holeshot, I just put my head down and focused on cleaning the hill climbs, which helped me maintain my lead. I’m happy to come out on top and win the championship!”

Cody was able to recover some time during the race but then he was losing more in the most technical climbs, especially at the one called Little Romaniacs. “I rode way better this year, but I struggled on some of the hill climbs. Overall, it was a pretty good day. The first lap went pretty well but I had a few small mistakes. I was down on time, but I knew I could make it up. The second lap I pushed hard to get first for the day, and I was making up time, but I got hung up really bad on three hill climbs that basically ended any chance at a win.”

Despite not winning, Webb finished second in the AMA Extreme Off-Road series and the East Extreme championship. Ryder Leblond claimed the last podium spot at the Battle of the Goats and finished third in the East Extreme series.
