Travis Pastrana will take up the challenge to race this weekend’s Hoosier GNCC, round six of the 2021 Grand National Cross Country series at the Ironman Raceway, Indiana.

Yep, you heard it right, Travis Pastrana is back in GNCC action this coming weekend – on a two-stroke KTM. The star of…well, loads of things but mainly Nitro Circus (he needs little introduction does he?) last tackled GNCC two years ago at the Wild Boar but also has history from way back in the day.

Pastrana will throw himself into a three-hour race at the Ironman GNCC because of a bet with a fellow off-road master, Ryan Sipes. Both will be at Ironman Raceway as part of the bet which sees them competing in five events in five different US states in 12 days (for a dollar!).

He has been training…

The first Spring GNCC at the Ironman Raceway

Traditionally the Ironman Raceway hosts a GNCC round in October but this year, as with a few other events in the 2021 season, the Indiana track will host two rounds. The Hoosier comes in a thick part of the Off-Road season for many racers who’ve are running back-to-back weekends of GNCC plus National Enduro and US Sprint Enduro rounds.

The organizing team has laid out a different track for the Hoosier and they claim that it will be “a unique event” using some of the classic segments but with “the opportunity to enjoy the Ironman Raceway as they have never before been able to”, the GNCC team says.

The main storyline is the battle for the main XC1 Pro championship which has seen Ben Kelley holding an ever-diminishing points advantage over Steward Baylor who has won three rounds on the bounce now.

Remember that time when Pastrana challenged David Knight in the Florida sand way back in the day?
