New tracks and Hard Enduro World Championship status will mark the return of the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo on June 16-19 2022 after two years absence, make a new date for your diary on December 6 when the race entries open.

The region around Eisenerz and Vordernberg in the heart of Austria will again turn into a motorsports ‘hot-spot’ for one week in the middle of June 2022 after two years break due to COVID-19.

With entries opening on December 6, “preparations for the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo are already in full swing.” Says race promotor and mastermind Karl Katoch. “After this long break we are really looking forward to welcome athletes from all over the world at Erzberg and make the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo the epicentre of the international Extreme Enduro family again!”

New track layouts for 2022

Despite the COVID-19 situation, the mining of iron ore from the quarry continues at a pace which means the shape of the mountain has “significally changed” since the last visit in 2019. “Our first track inspections during the summer have shown that we need to add new track sections for both the Blakläder Iron Road Prologue as well as for the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo”, Karl Katoch explains.

The Blakläder Iron Road Prolog will see more than 1500 riders take two runs across two days to set their fastest run time to the top of the Iron Giant. Only the 500 fastest riders qualify through to the main event Red Bull Erzbergrodeo. “The basic characteristic of the Prologue’s racetrack stays the same,” continues Erzbergrodeo track manager Wolfgang Thaller, “but we will add some new benches to the track for 2022. High speed racing and perfect riding technique in the turns will once again determine who’s winning or losing.”

On Sunday, the 500 qualified starters will tackle what is regarded as the toughest single day  race in the calendar, with only a handful of riders reaching the finish line after a gruelling four hours of intense racing. “The 2022 Red Bull Erzbergrodeo racetrack will be a real highlight in its 26 years of history.” Continues Katoch. “Both skill level and difficulty level remain unchanged, but we will add some new challenges to the more than 35 kilometres long track. Only the best of the best will reach the finish, the Red Bull Erzbergrodeo will remain a real test of mental strength, riding skills and endurance for the competitors.”

Red Bull Erzbergrodeo will finally be a part of the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship in 2022. Next year the World Championship calendar features nine races in Israel, Serbia, Austria, Italy, Romania, the USA, Canada, Poland and Spain. Red Bull Erzbergrodeo will also be broadcasted Live on Red Bull TV and ServusTV in 2022.
