2024 SuperEnduro World Championship round six results from Sofia, Bulgaria where Billy Bolt was in a class of his own while Jonny Walker suffered with food poisoning – Mani Lettenbichler takes second ahead of Will Hoare.

SuperEnduro Rnd 6 in a nutshell:

  • Any ideas that Billy Bolt would A) still be riding injured and not be at this best and B) might come up against any opposition to his SuperEnduro GP winning streak were quashed in the early practice sessions inside the Sofia Arena. Two seconds a lap faster than anyone else after timed practice, Superpole qualifying, showed it was business as usual for Billy who was back to his best and almost baffled by how easy it was.
  • Jonny Walker was next best on the early time sheets but was suffering big-time on the night with food poisoning. It was a cruel blow for Jonny at this crucial, penultimate stage of the season.
  • Behind them, from Manuel Lettenbichler third to around P8, times were incredibly tight and it set up what would be become a cracking night’s racing for the podium places.
  • Bolt blasted a time 2.6 seconds faster than Dominik Olszowy in Superpole. Enjoying the mixed obstacle track, Bolt went onto sail through the evening, once again like he was playing a different game.
  • Moto one was a breeze with a start-to-finish win for Bolt, the reverse grid moto two saw early leaders Will Hoare then Tim Apolle hand it to Bill on a plate and moto three was a formality – honestly, it is was too easy.
  • The best racing was for the podium places with four or five riders in the reckoning and all as fast as each other in any given lap.
  • Olszowy, true to form, landed on Mitch Brightmore in moto one to split the race result. It allowed Mani Lettenbichler to claim second from Eddie Karlsson at the flag.
  • Race two was a similar story with Lettenbichler playing it cool for second behind Bill and the squabbling pack eventually settling with Olszowy third.
  • Moto three saw the most dramatic race of the night with the freight train lead by Will Hoare, Mitch Brightmore, Lettenbichler, Diogo Vieira and Olszowy – it was chaos but great to watch. In the end it was early season third placed rider Hoare who took second and with that just edging third on the night from Jonny Walker.
  • Despite his illness, Walker proved basically that not trying so hard brings results and he kept the championship alive somehow with fourth overall while the others played roulette.
  • Ash Brightmore was in charge of the Juniors, controlling each moto from the front while Sella made hard work of it, including hitting the gate in moto two start. Each time he determinedly pushed through the pack to challenge for the win.
  • But it all rapidly fell apart in moto three when the Israeli crashed and lost the plot for a couple of laps – the championship suddenly looked like it was gone and tears would flow for Suff after the race.
  • The net results was a very measured and smart ride from Brightmore to take three moto wins, his first maximum of the season.
  • Second on the night went to Milan Schmueser back to full fitness and Sella taking the final podium place. The championship points gap is 26 points in Brightmore’s favour heading to the final round next weekend in Newcastle.
  • Bolt meanwhile heads home with a 59-point lead and has a huge welcome in his home town ahead in seven days’ time.
