The 2022 US Sprint Enduro series kicks off this weekend, January 22-23, with round one of eight Moree’s Paradise in Sellers, South Carolina.

US Sprint Enduro season is here again already? How did that come around so quick? Yep, January 22-23 will see North America’s premium sprint enduro championship, the US Sprint Enduro Series launch its 2022 season with two days of racing – don’t go worrying about the ice storm up the east coast either, the organisers say “conditions are prime”.

With the emphasis on speed more than endurance, the format for US Sprint Endurio remains six tests per day split between six “sprint” tests and six “enduro” tests, with each test ranging from 5 to 15 minutes in length.

The 2022 schedule features seven new venues in the eight-round series. After the opener at Moree’s Paradise, the series moves to Hamer, South Carolina for round two of the series at South of the Border MX. This round will double as an ISDE Qualifier. The extensive SOTB MX onsite facilities feature amenities such as a gym, a pool, a bike shop, an RV Park, restaurants and a motel.

Track 93, in Fairmont, West Virginia on April 22-23 and High Voltage Raceway in Dilliner, Pennsylvania, on May 28-29 are both new venues with Track 93 being new to any form of off-road a racing. Add to the list of newbies in there also Dreamville MX, and Boswell Farms, which are both sandy venues.

The series wraps up on June 18-19 at the Harleywood facility near Bristol, Virginia, which is the only venue to return from the 2021 schedule.

Layne Michael ready to defend his crown

Returning for the 2022 season will be defending Pro champion rider Layne Michael. Layne is a big fan of the US Sprint Enduro Series.

“The Sprint Enduro Series is pretty unique in that you are racing against the clock instead of racing head-to-head,” says Michael. “I think it’s a cool series and it’s all about speed, it’s an all-out sprint. You have two days of six tests per day and at the end of the weekend the rider with the fastest overall time is the winner.

“I also like the fact that you have a short break in between tests instead of being out there for three-straight hours. If you can have a bad test you still have 11 other opportunities to make up for it.

“The Sprint Enduro Series really suits my style, and I think it has helped my sprint speed in other forms of racing,” adds Michael who will be riding for Am Pro Yamaha again this season. “It’s a perfect training tool for the International Six Days Enduro.”

Other factory riders signed up to compete in the series include Johnny Girroir (Coastal Racing GASGAS), Liam Draper (Tely Racing KTM), Ben Nelko (Honda), Rachel Gutish (GASGAS), Kori Steede (Trail Jesters Racing) and Australians Tayla Jones (Husqvarna) and Will Riordan (RPM Racing), to name a few.
