The FIM is inviting all interested racing teams to get on the case and register themselves for the inaugural E-Xplorer World Cup, the world’s first electric all-terrain motorcycle race series.

The new series will launch in September of 2022 and follow a similar concept the Extreme-E car racing series which has been running for a couple of years now and is a relatively high-profile series with a good deal of media coverage – it’s where you’ll see the queen of off-road Laia Sanz racing these days.

This new two-wheeled off-shoot promises more of the same in terms of racing format and media coverage. The difference is the E-Xplorer World Cup plans to run some events in the streets not the desert, making it more accessible to spectators and better looking on the TV.

No doubt the range of electric motorcycles on the market currently are dictating that city street race vibe too with trials bikes and e-mtb/off-road motorcycle hybrids among the most prominent production bikes out there.

The series will feature three rounds in this inaugural season but the calendar and event locations are yet to be revealed.

The plan is for up to 12 mixed male/female teams to compete in head-to-head relay races on motorcycles propelled 100% by electric motors. One rider does one lap, they swap over. Each team will have three runs per event and the ‘best of three’ race times wins. That’s about it.

The promoters, Explorer S.A., have a 10-year worldwide exclusive licence to promote electric all-terrain motorcycle racing from the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) so are committed to the venture.

Interested race teams wanting to compete in the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup are being called forward and enter into the selection process. Each selected team will then have to commit to participate in all the races, with at least two official riders (one female and one male).

The precise terms of this selection process, together with the applicable selection criteria, deadlines, legal requirements, template application documents and other conditions, will be communicated to candidates who have registered a formal expression of interest with FIM E-XPLORER World Cup on or before 5pm CET Friday 22 April 2022.
