Results from the opening day of the2024 FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) where the United States take an early lead in the Trophy Team category after the opening acceleration tests in Camerino, Italy.

After the opening ceremony on Wednesday the ’24 EVT got down to business  with the time-honoured acceleration test for the 400-plus vintage machines in Camerino.

The short 20 kilometre opening day’s loop is the opening shakedown test of rider and machine ahead of running timed runs up an street next to the paddock. The short, 200 metre stretch asks rider’s to accelerate and decelerate between timing beams and aim for the fastest time.

United States team lead on day one

Hoping to make good their start in this year’s race, the United States trio of Billy Burns (Can AM), Marc Grossman (Yamaha) and Fred Hoess (Husqvarna) topped the time sheets in the prestigious FIM Vintage Veterans Trophy Team classification.

Host nation and defending champions Italy finished their day just over three points behind in second. With day two featuring the longest course of the week, they will aim to fight back and challenge their rivals.

“It’s nice to be here at home in Italy as the defending champions,” told Tullio Pellegrinelli (Puch Frigeri). “There is a lot of excitement around this race in Camerino and the special tests are very beautiful.

“This year we are all learning the new coefficient in the results that is based on the age of rider and the motorcycle. As I am one of the older guys in the class, I hope it will help my results. We’ll see as the week progresses.”

Spain completed the top three on day one in the FIM Vintage Veteran Trophy Team, while the United Kingdom and Austria were fourth and fifth.

65-year-old Von Zitzewitz fastest overall

The acceleration test was won by Germany’s Bert Von Zitzewitz. The sixty-five-year-old stopped the clocks in a time of 34.30 seconds on his Maico 490.

Italy Dominate in FIM Vintage Silver Vase Team

In the FIM Vintage Silver Vase Team category, Italy, headed by MC Manzano 3, swept the top seven positions on day one. GS Sorci Verdi A lie second, with Gilera Arcore Team Gornat completing the top three.

The Italian trio of Matilda Gargelli (Puch Frigeri), Elena Ghelfi (Ancillotti) and Laura Mori (Gori) reached the end of day one in the FIM Vintage Women’s Club Team.

The FIM Vintage Club Team proved very competitive on day one, with the top three teams separated by fractions of a point. Italy’s Regolarita’ 70 Giovani head Germany Club 1 Kramer in second, with Italian’s MC Tagliamento 1 third.
