The Yamaha Off Road Experience celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024 with Yamaha Motor UK marking the occasion with a special presentation at the mid-Wales venue.

Established by enduro racing legend and multiple British Champion Geraint Jones in 1994, the Yamaha Off Road Experience has become one of the leading off-road rider training and experience centres in the UK in the three decades since.

Geraint, together with his sons Rowan and Dylan – both celebrated Enduro racers in their own right – has run the Yamaha Off Road Experience, situated in the picturesque Hafren Forest just outside of Llanidloes, alongside a team of skilled support riders and instructors to great acclaim, with their experience days now fully booked well in advance.

Starting out with XT500s, DT125R and later the WR200, the Yamaha Off Road Experience now runs specially-developed courses including the Yamaha Off Road Experience, which utilises Yamaha’s latest WR450F and WR250F enduro bikes and the Ténéré Experience, which sees riders take to the stunning Welsh hills on the Ténéré 700 machines. From novice off road riders to experienced enduro racers and trail riders, the Yamaha Off Road Experience caters for all abilities.

In 2022, the Jones family cut the ribbon on a brand new, state-of-the-art Welcome Centre, upping the game even further with their new purpose-built facility like nothing else in the UK off-road scene.

Visting to launch the all-new Ténéré 700 Extreme to the UK’s press, Yamaha Motor UK presented the Jones’ with a 30th Anniversary cake in a special presentation during the event, which saw the who’s who of the off road media world take to the Hafren forest on the latest iteration of the Ténéré.

Geraint Jones:
“I first approached Yamaha in 1991 who I raced enduro for towards the end of my career. Then, in 1994, we needed some motorcycles for the public to ride and experience a taste of what enduro riding is all about, and what started with just four bikes, gradually grew into what you see today. We started with just four bikes including DT125s, XT500s and some YZ125s and today we’re running lots of bikes from the latest WR models to the brand new 2024 model Ténéré 700 Extreme which is being launched at the centre today. We really like the relationship we have with Yamaha Motor UK. They’re almost like family which is why I think the collaboration has thrived for as long as it has.”

Jeff Turner:
“It’s been a fantastic journey together with the Jones family and I’m delighted to celebrate 30 years of the Yamaha Off-Road Experience. It’s fabulous to be here to celebrate this with an amazing family, amazing team and amazing riders. I remember coming here in 1995 and riding with Geraint Jones who is an absolute legend in the enduro world in his time, and back then, we were riding very small trail bike bikes and it grew and grew, and all these years later, it’s become what I believe to be the most professional, the best organised, with the best facilities of any off-road experience in the country.”
