2024 Erzbergrodeo Prologue results: Garcia fastest overall after day two
Results from the 2024 Red Bull Erzbergrodeo prologue where Josep Garcia takes top spot after two days – Wade Young fastest of the Hard Enduro World Championship riders qualifying for the main Hare Scramble race tomorrow.
Erzberg prologue day two in a nutshell:
- Iron Road Prologue day two at Erzberg is traditionally the day where no-one clocks a faster time – the billiard smooth course the top guys faced yesterday is long gone after 1300+ riders have savaged it into submission.
- So although everyone is a little more dialled into its twists and turns, the second qualifying session for tomorrow’s Hare Scramble was a formality for the riders at the sharp end with the exception of American Carson Brown who clocked 35 seconds faster today, a measure of how his 100 starting number affected his run yesterday compared to the rain and cloud-free runs of the people around him on the results sheets.
- As we mentioned yesterday, Josep Garcia was on fire and ripped a time 30s faster than anyone and revelling in getting back on the 350F KTM. He isn’t racing the main event however so first pick on the starting rows tomorrow in the bottom of the quarry will be German rider Chris Gundermann followed by Dominik Olszowy who showed the speed of the Rieju 300 two-stroke for third scratch. but will also not race tomorrow.
- The first of the Hard Enduro World Championship registered riders is Wade Young next in fourth overall, having pipped world champion and last year's winner Manuel Lettenbichler for that honour.
- Teo Kabakchiev is next with all these riders clocking quick succession times including Jonny Walker, Carson Brown and Trystan Hart – all not HEWC riders – completing the top 10.
- One rider not out there today was Cody Webb. The Sherco rider will have to wait another year to try and claim a coveted Iron Giant rock trophy after hitting a rock yesterday and injuring himself. Speaking last night in the paddock, Cody said it was a nothing crash which had big consequences to take him out of the race – damage to his knee, cuts to his hand and backside made riding impossible today and he will get a proper check-up back home.
- Spaniard Sandra Gomez tops the multicultural female category ahead of SlovenianTjasa Fifer and Nina Klink from the Netherlands.
- In the twin cylinder category Antoine Meo‘s day one time stood as fastest ahead of Chris Gundermann who, like Pol Tarres, did two runs on the prologue on two bikes and will then opt with the enduro machine tomorrow.
- Former enduro world champion Johnny Aubert was also racing the twin cylinder category but admitted basically stopping part way through the course yesterday, thinking it was the finish. With no-one around he was confused, the next rider came along and he got back on the gas but he lost a heap of time doing some sight-seeing on the mountain. Doh!
FYI the main event is broadcast live tomorrow from 12pm CET with Billy Bolt on the commentary team, tune in to that one here: Watch Red Bull Erzbergrodeo 2024 Main Race Live
