Scheduled to take place in Aguilar de Campoo, Spain, on October 9-11 as the third round of the re-jigged WESS Championship, Hixpania Hard Enduro has been forced to cancel due to the situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of the 2020 series.

In a press release dated September 11, the organisers say after exhausting all possibilities, “current conditions make it impossible to organize a sporting event” at this time.

Fran Rico, head of Hixpania’s organization, explains: “We have worked for months to learn the latest health measures to ensure the participation of all riders. After restructuring the event, for the good of Hixpania, the WESS Enduro World Championship and above all, the sport we love so much, we believe that the best solution is not to celebrate Hixpania 2020.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, work has been ongoing for restructuring the event and different options studied respecting all current legislation and including even more security measures. Among them, a health plan was drawn up, the number of event days was reduced to two and the format of their different races, in addition to the difficult decision not to have spectators.

“We want to thank the institutional support throughout this time, as well as the effort done by the WESS Enduro World Championship team to maintain the full calendar.” Continues Rico. “All this without forgetting our sponsors. Undoubtedly, these times will make us develop an event with higher quality for new editions. Finally, thanks to all the fans for being our biggest support during these difficult months.”

The organization is already preparing the fifth edition in 2021.
