Results and video highlights from rounds seven and eight of the 2023 Italian Enduro Championship in Sant’ Angelo in Vado where Steve Holcombe claimed a double victory after close battles with Wil Ruprecht and Andrea Verona.

“Not my kind of conditions” didn’t seem to matter for the man of the moment Steve Holcombe who claimed another victory in the Campionato Italiano Assoluti, Italian Enduro Championship in Sant’Angelo in Vado, which is south of San Marino and Rimini in central Italy.

Most of Europe has been engulfed in a heat wave this last week or so and it was no exception for the two-day meeting which saw some of EnduroGP’s big hitters taking in the seventh and eighth rounds of the popular Italian domestic series.

The results could hardly have been any closer on Saturday with Holcombe, Wil Ruprecht and Andrea Verona all taking it right down to the final tests.

Leading for most of the first day, Holcombe’s mistake on the third lap meant the Beta Racing rider had to work in hard-pack tests which offered little room for error or grip. Steve finally grabbed top spot after blitzing the last three tests stealing it from Ruprecht by just 0.87 of a second with Verona 6.58 behind in third place.

Hamish Macdonald and Nathan Watson completed the top five in this international contest.

Across the classes David Soreca wins the 250 2T race again and extends his lead over Philippaerts and the same goes for Matteo Cavallo ahead of Morgan Lesiardo in the 300 2T class. Thomas Oldrati edges towards the 250 4T title with another win, Verona took the 350 GASGAS to the 450, Morettini the Juniors and Holcombe the overall plus foreigner’s class.

Day 2

Things were a relatively easier for Beta’s sole rider at this Assoluti weekend. A relatively comfortable (!) eight seconds win ahead of reigning champion Andrea Verona saw Holcombe clock the perfect weekend.

Class victories went to Holcombe for the overall and “foreigner’s” class. Davide Soreca wins the 250 2T ahead of Maurizio Micheluz, Matteo Cavallo beats Morgan Lesiardo in the 300, and it was the umpteenth victory of Thomas Oldrati in the 250 4T. Andrea Verona was the victor in the 450s and Manolo Morettini the Juniors. Kevin Cristino claimed the first title of the 2023 season taking the 125 class win for Fantic.

For all the others we will have to wait for the end of the championship in Brescia where two days of competition are scheduled in Boario Terme on September 9-10.
