This is the KTM’s adventure model which aims at the rider who really does want to go off-road, take on the types of terrain you see in the images and genuinely do it for real (rather than have all the gear and, well, less of an idea).

It hasn’t changed much for the 2024 model from what we can see but, sitting at the top of the Adventure model range (in our view), the 890 R RALLY model boasts plenty to get your ADV juices flowing.

That includes high-spec suspension componentry with the WP XPLOR PRO 7548 fork system using Cone Valve technology combined with the WP XPLOR PRO 6746 shock absorber, that are both from the WP Pro Components catalogue and fully adjustable for a wide range of terrain and riders.

With WP’s experience from rally competition, this premium kit offers a high level of damping performance, the rider feeling to push more over obstacles, while maintaining a comfort and control. It’s manually adjustable, just like a competition bike kit, and has none of the electronic aids you will find on other KTM Adventure bikes.

Perfect parallel twin engine configuration

We think it is by now well established that a twin cylinder motor makes the best adventure bike engine. Ideally that’ll be around 800cc to produce the right combination of good torque, power combined with not too much weight and importantly a controllable feel in the dirt.

KTM say the 889cc KTM engine dishes out 100Nm of torque at 6500rpm with 105hp. This model gets the upgraded lightweight Akrapovič Slip-on Line exhaust system, similar to that used by KTM’s factory racing teams.

The electronics are still there on the R Rally model including Offroad ABS system, Traction Control, Turn-By-Turn+ navigation and multiple ride modes to select depending on terrain. There’s also A 5” TFT display, Tech Pack and Connectivity Unit kit giving the rider more options for control and communication.

Ergonomics-wise, the R Rally boasts a race-specific seat, heavy duty Excel rims and steel spokes for the tougher terrain, Rally footpegs for increased feeling and grip, carbon tank guards and further protection for the engine, rear master cylinder and suspension are also fitted as standard. There’s also a tough Supersprox-Stealth rear sprocket in a brand-new, rally-derived design.

Ultimate KTM Desert Experience

34 customers of the new Adventure 890 R Rally also have the chance to take part in a bespoke adventure rally experience in the Merzouga desert. KTM has organised an exclusive opportunity to join offroad legends like Johnny Aubert at The Ultimate KTM Desert Experience organised by the Rally team.

The event will take place in Morocco, with two groups having the option to choose from two dates: 3 - 7 March or 7 - 11 March, 2024. That means three days riding in the same terrain that the KTM Factory Rally Team and the 790 ADVENTURE prototype underwent their testing. Engage in a dedicated and fully guided route, planned by Jordi Viladoms, Sport Manager Red Bull KTM Rally Factory Racing.

Participants are looking to be offered a full-factory style package including the use of a fully prepped bike provided by KTM with all the necessary technical support required for desert exploration, transport during the trip and luxury accommodation for a three-night stay, plus one special night camping with KTM in the desert for the total prize of 4,900 € (incl. VAT).
