Touratech have a released a new, side-mounted spare, first aid or toolbox to fit Honda Africa Twin, Yamaha Tenere 700 and BMW F 850 GS Adventure bike models.

Most people will know already that Touratech makes a vast range of motorcycle products chiefly aimed at the adventure bike market. It’s a comprehensive catalogue by any measure and they new products can be easy to miss.

This new toolbox is one such which we missed but one we heard had been developed with cross-country rally competition knowledge and is a practical solution to carrying tools on the bike.

Available primarily for the Yamaha Tenere 700 and Honda CRF 1100 L Africa Twin, they can be mounted either in conjunction with the engine crash bar or as a stand-alone solution.

Using the space next to the engine makes more sense in terms of your bike’s centre of gravity and with a volume of 3.5 litres, it gives you options for tools, first aid kit or spares as you see fit.

Will it take the hits?

The obvious question with it being down low there is can it take an impact? Touratech say they have used a particularly tough, impact-resistant plastic called ABS that is a proven component in the manufacture of motorcycle helmets.

This toolbox is designed as a top loader for accessibility with a removable lid that is splash proof – they point out it is not guaranteed waterproof if you’re riding through deep water.

The box mounts on the left side of the engine with different mounting options: a stand-alone solution using the stainless steel bracket supplied, in conjunction with a Touratech crash bar (purchased separately). You can buy the toolbox in a package together with the crash bar or on its own.

The box itself has a black finish, the stainless steel brackets are available with either an electro-polished surface or a black coating.

This toolbox is also available for mounting on the engine crash bar (BMW original accessory) of the BMW F 850 GS.

Cost: £344/$229.95
