German Hard Enduro Series: narrow victory for Hentschel in Reetz
The 2021 MAXXIS Hard Enduro Series Germany arrived in Reetz, Brandenburg, for round five of the season where Leon Hentschel narrowly maintained his 100% record for the season while Timo Jungmann claimed the Senior title.
In 2020, when Reetz was the only round of the HESG season due to the pandemic, organisers turned this race into a sprint enduro simply to make it work under the circumstances. At round five of the 2021 championship things were back to normal with a fast, sandy course sprinkled with a few technical sections which would ultimately decide the result.
Endurides Prolog Award provides a surprise
The Endurides Prologue Award bagen the show with a seven-minute loop where riders with motocross skills had the advantage. Leon Hentschel has dominated this HESG season but dramatically crashed on a fast section and lost 20 seconds. That handed the victory to Marc Wulf revelling in the sand.
Freestyle rider Kai Haase took advantage with his MX skills and placed second, while Hentschel was down in 20th and therefore had to start in group race two.
Group races go to the favourites
Despite fewer participants than usual, the spectators had plenty of entertainment in the group races. Especially because the top group was fully represented.
Marc Wulf won the first group race held over 90 minutes with Hentschel taking the second heat race, despite a few technical difficulties, he won against Haase and Louis Richter. These two also had a close duel, as did Paul-Erik Huster and Lenny Geretzky behind them.
Stone climb decided the final
The deciding final race saw Marc Wulf leading with a strong performance which proved why he is closing the gap to Hentschel with every round. However, the tables turned in Hentschel's favour at the end of the second lap in the most difficult section of the lap.
Wulf got stuck and lost a few seconds in the rocks while Hentschel took advantage and passed for the lead in the outer lane.
With a gap of just under 57 seconds, and having set the fastest lap of the race (11:01,548), Hentschel took his fifth race of the season: “I'm super happy, it was a great day. The track was cool too, with lots of sand it was something different. I'm looking forward to the next race.”
Jungmann champion in Senior class
Hard work all season brought Timo Jungmann the early championship in the Senior class. Czech Rudolf Stütz has been a tough opponent but in the end Jungmann prevailed again to take the 2021 crown.
Paul-Erik Huster won the Junior category again, benefiting from a mishap for his closest rival Louis Richter. Some riders missed a turn-off not included in the final and continued on the group race lap. One of the lead riders must have taken away the barrier tape and, despite the extra arrows Richter was among those losing time and position going the wrong way.
The next round of the MAXXIS HardEnduroSeries Germany will take place next Saturday October 9 in Schwepnitz. Online entries are still possible, there will again be an extra honour for guests and a licence is not required.
