Organisers of the Getzenrodeo say they might not continue after staging the 11th edition of the German Hard Enduro, a race widely considered to be among the best on the calendar.

On the back of another hugely successful Getzenrodeo, this year the sixth round of the Hard Enduro World Championship in Germany where home hero Mani Lettenbichler claimed the ’25 world title, the future of the event is in doubt.

Speaking to Enduro21 during the 2025 race weekend, one of the co-organisers Matthias Schubert explained they might not continue to stage the event due to commitment and costs: “It is a lot of work, you understand, and we put many hours into the planning and running, but we do it as a passion and as a team. At this time we are not sure if we want to carry on because we only want to do this if the will and the desire is there to put in the hard work.

“We don’t mind to do the hard work, but collectively as a club and as a team of people we need to have this desire to make the race and at the moment we are not sure we will continue.”

The passion was in the crowd and from where we were standing and watching, but also clearly it’s also there with the riders who fairly uniquely (just lately in the HEWC) were full of praise for the course, the format and the atmosphere.

For that alone it would be crying shame for such a popular event were to disappear. It’s tough, we understand that from both the financial aspect of staging an event like this and for the access to land.

Land access and permits remain a problem in different parts of Europe but, despite Germany have strict laws in this regard, we can look back on both the EnduroGP and the Getzenrodeo this year as great events on the terrain just outside the historic town of Zschopau.

The financial aspect is difficult too for this event which traditionally has run in alternate years. Yes, they see record numbers of spectators bringing revenue (to the beer stalls at least!) but the initial outlay for a club like that behind Getzenrodeo is huge – and that is a problem facing many organising clubs looking at a round of any FIM World Championship.

For Enduro21 it would be a sad loss to not have Matthias and the team planning another Getzen in 2027. E21 has been there for most of the 11 editions and any calendar without it seems to have something missing. For there not to be a Getzen at all would be a loss to enduro.
