The official line is CFMoto “venture into electric motocross development” but another way of putting that is KTM are developing electric dirt bikes – teaser video featuring Ronnie Renner.

Developing them again, still or for real this time? Whichever way you look at it this is a bit of news worth looking at with your bigger picture glasses on.

CFMoto , the Chinese manufacturer of various two and four-wheeled motorcycles, entered a joint venture with KTM in 2017 with the both now sharing bike platforms, engines, global production and distribution. Add in here that CFMoto also have a partnership with Yamaha Motor, though that seems more about Yamaha getting into China than the other way around.

Take a look at your national KTM subsidury these days and it will not just be KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS but also MV Agusta and CFMoto.

Joint venture, partnership, or whatever you want to call it, the fact that Ronnie Renner is ripping an MX track on an electric prototype being developed under this giant motorcycle manufacturing umbrella is a big deal.

Why? Because if CFMoto are going racing with e-dirtbikes then KTM Group are too.

Here’s the official line from CFMoto

CFMOTO acknowledges an appetite within the motocross community for an electric bike that can equal the power, agility and thrill of traditional petrol-powered counterparts in response to the growing popularity of electric mobility. The EVMX concept is our first step toward entering this growing sector.
